[ON BRAND] All the smartest gals are on the internet now
and tbh you should be too

Hi there! Welcome back to On Brand - your weekly dose of actionable strategies and insights to grow & monetize your personal brand.
Happy October business besties! I can’t believe how quickly 2025 is going.
In this issue, we’re diving into my favorite standing-on-my-soapbox topic: why you need to be online. I come with the data and with the action steps so you have no excuse now 😉
Before we dive in, here are some updates from moi!
• I’m leaving LA! Temporarily. For the next couple of months, I’m packing my life up into a suitcase again and doing the most single woman in her 30s cliche - going on a bit of a Love, pray, eat trip. Or in my case Work from a different location, work some more, and eat trip. Can’t wait to share more deets!
• We’ve onboarded our first 200 users into Self Made (a platform to help you create content with ease). I’m so insanely grateful for everyone who jumped in already, and still pinching myself that we’ve built a tech company. You can try Self Made here (7-day free trial).
• We’re hosting a free community workshop next week, talking all things building a brand. I’ll be breaking down how we’ve grown our audience to 95,000 in less than a year so you can do the same. RSVP here.

Interesting things from last week
The best things we’ve read, watched and listened to + news from the internet.
Lots of AI news this week: Meta launches Vibes (but the vibes are off), OpenAI launches their own social media app and quickly becomes the number 1 app in the US and people of NYC have opinions about wearing your ChatGPT around your neck.
TikTok’s new ownership raises concerns among TikTok creators.

The Internet needs more smart people (yes, I mean you)
The smartest people ( think business owners, writers, artists, 9-to-5ers…) are building their own platforms online. Not to be an “influencer”, but because they know that creating your own opportunities and being visible is the way to thrive in this economy.
Visibility = ooportunities
Visibility = community
Visibility = success
Closed mouths don’t get fed and building your online presence is truly networking on steroids.
Let's talk about why this matters more than ever:
The traditional career path is breaking
Get good grades, go to a good college, land a well-paying job…until that’s not the reality anymore. The economy isn't doing great, entry-level jobs are slowly disappearing to AI and it seems like the traditional job market is hanging on a thread.
And when you finally manage to land a job after sending 100s of applications? We've all learned that your position can vanish after one meeting with HR.
But while traditional employment is crumbling, the creator economy is growing and more and more people are doing their own thing.
Let’s look at the numbers, shall we?
The creator economy is currently worth $250 billion and Goldman Sachs projects it will hit $480 billion by 2027 (here’s a link to the full report from 2023), essentially doubling in just three years. More aggressive forecasts suggest it could reach $1.3 trillion by 2033.
But this is hardly about teenagers trying to become influencers.
40% of creators are Millennials
30% of creators are Gen X
13% of creators are Gen Z
By 2027, projections suggest 86.5 million Americans will be freelancers. This means over half of American workers will be independent or at least partially independent.
We see a lot of professionals flocking to the apps to build their own luck. In a world where you’re always just one viral video from changing the trajectory of your business, who can blame them?
Building something of your own, even if you don't want to monetize it immediately, gives you options. You can create your own seat at the table in an industry that genuinely interests you, using skills you already have. This brings incredible opportunities you might not have access to otherwise.
Building online has literally changed my life in ways I could never have imagined. The places it's taken me, the people I've met, the impact I've been able to create – it's magical.
Isn't it amazing that we live in a time where you can broadcast your thoughts and work into the ether and it reaches strangers around the world that care about the same things as you do?!
You don't need anyone's permission. Or if you feel like you do, take this email as a permission slip.
You can just start, and the right people will find you. You get to build your own community around topics you actually care about and create an impact in the world.
Who's doing this really well?
Let me show you some people absolutely crushing it and I’ve been fangirling over.
Anna Li building her personal brand, newsletter and tea company after dealing with burn out and mastering nervous system regulation.
Hanna Goefft leveraged her experience in recruiting to build a platform helping people thrive in their jobs, landing partnerships and speaking opportunities with brands like LinkedIn and Kajabi.
Anastasia from Girl In Blue Studios sharing her genius creative brain and using her socials as lead generation for clients for her branding studio. Here’s a video outlining her story.
Your 3-Step Plan to Start Showing Up
Step 1: Get crystal clear on your goal
Before you post anything, you need to know what you're building toward. Your content strategy will be completely different depending on your goal:
Are you trying to:
Get more clients for your consulting business?
Sell digital products?
Work with brands?
Build an authority in your industry?
Your action: Write down your primary goal. Then reverse-engineer what content strategy will actually get you there. If you're not sure, pick the goal that excites you most and commit to it for the next 90 days.
Step 2: Define what you want to be known for
This is where most people get stuck. They know they should "post content" but they have no idea what that content should actually be about.
Here's a framework from our workshop to help you get clarity. Oh and come join us live next week, we’ll be diving into brand building in so much more detail!

Step 3: Start posting consistently (very important!)
Now that you know your goal and your positioning, it's time to actually show up.
Select your platform. Like to write? Go to Substack. Corporate baddie? Linkedin. Video queen? TikTok or YT. Bit of everything? Instagram is always a great choice! Don't try to be everywhere. Pick ONE platform and commit to it for at least a couple of months before expanding.
Create your content strategy. Your content topics, messaging and the types of content you post. Start simple, but pick something that allows you to post at least 4-5 times a week.
Regular check-ins with yourself. Set a weekly 30-minute calendar reminder. Use it to review your analytics, reflect on what felt good, and adjust your strategy moving forward.
Here are some questions you can use:What's working?
Which posts got the most engagement or meaningful responses?
What content felt easiest and most natural to create?
What opportunities or conversations came from your content?
What's not working?
What content are you dreading to create?
What feels forced or inauthentic?
Where are you spending time without seeing results?
What needs to change?
Do you need to adjust your content strategy?
Is your goal still the same, or has it evolved?
What are some bottlenecks in your process that you can remove?
The smartest move right now is building your own platform. Visibility will amplify the opportunities that are available to you. You will build a community of people who have your back. And it’s kinda fun once you get into the swing of things?!
The internet needs more smart people and yes, that also means you.
